Introduction to the Kyloe Hills
The Kyloe Hills lie between Wooler and the Northumberland coast. Most tourists tend to travel through the hills on their way either to beautiful beaches or into the Cheviot hills.
However there is much to see here, for instance
1. Bowden doors. Crags favoured by climbers but offering great views and only a 2 minute walk from the road.
2. Ros Castle. “Look out site” with tremendous views across to the Cheviot.
3. Old Bewick Church.Old church with a peaceful atmosphere.
4. Chillingham Castle and Wild Cattle. Ghosts and ancient wild cattle.
5. St Cuthbert’s Cave. Along St Cuthbert’s Way, a little visited cave.
The important point of staying in the Kyloe hills is that you are seldom more than 10 or 15 minutes from the Northumberland beaches but you are away from the hustle and bustle of the tourist attractions. These are quiet, rolling hills famous for their ancient cup and ring marks.
This blog is a small introduction to the area. Best viewed using an Ipad it concentrates on good pictures to explain what the Kyloe hills are like.
